Education: Microscope Funding

The RMS runs an initiative to promote the use of microscopes in primary schools - "AMFES - A Microscope for Every School". The intention of this initiative is to provide refunds of £20 towards the purchase of RMS approved microscopes for use in primary schools throughout the country.

The RMS is eager to promote the use of microscopes in primary schools, not just for use in science lessons but also as a general tool of observation. Schools already using microscopes partially funded by the RMS have used them for a wide range of projects ranging from Natural Sciences to Art based work.

A number of RMS members (namely Juliet Dyson, Peter Evennett, and Chris Hammond) work extremely hard accumulating funds for AMFES and promoting the awareness of available refunds to primary school teachers.

We would like to encourage primary schools throughout the country to make use of the funds available to them for the purchase of microscopes. Refunds are limited to 2 per school and the initiative is open to primary schools only.

The RMS also offers advice, answers questions and gives In-Service training courses for primary school teachers and workshops for activity centres, etc. If you would like to know more about training, or have any questions regarding this initiative, please contact our Education Officer, Elaine Rawle, Tel: 01865 254762.
