Flow cytometry has been used in Haemato-Oncology for the diagnosis of Leukaemia and lymphoma for the last thirty years. During this period, this complex discipline played a major contribution in haematological malignancies classification, diagnosis and prognosis. There is a need to focus on the continuous training of operators and scientists particularly due to the recent evolution of instrumentation, lasers, fluorochromes and applications in the clinical laboratory. The aim of the meeting is to discuss the main aspects of the use of flow cytometry for immunophenotyping. The meeting will be of interest to both people who are new in the field and those with some experience, including scientists, technicians, doctors and trade representatives. My intention is to address topics in a friendly and stimulating educational atmosphere, I will prepare the popular Flow Quiz to encourage audience participation, controversial topics such as multicolour panels and biphenotypic leukaemia are going to be discussed by Ulsika Johanson and Paul Virgo, Steve Couzens will present clinical case reports to illustrate data interpretation and diagnosis in a clinical context. Representatives from the sponsor commercial vendors will be available to talk about their most recent instruments and reagents. The afternoon session will be packed with speakers with experience in their filed of interest i.e. clinical trials Nicki Panoskaltsis form Northwick Park Hospital, histopathology: Ayoma Attygalle: the Royal Marsden Hospital and David Bloxham from Addenbrooke’s Cambridge. I sincerely hope that we will attract as many interested colleagues as usual, and that we will be able to continue with this instructional meeting and maintain it as an established annual event.
