This is a new intensive four day course covering applications in biological sciences. It will be of interest to those with a research or technical background in life science or cell biology, from academia and industry, who wish to learn new skills or update their knowledge. The Centre for Bio-imaging in partnership with Gatan UK and Jeol UK is a state-of-the- art facility for cryo electron microscopy. It is equipped with both scanning and transmission electron microscopes.

Techniques covered will include rapid cooling, freeze substitution, cryo-sectioning, thin film TEM and cryo-transfer and freeze fracture cryo-SEM. Attendees will have the opportunity use state of the art equipment and instrumentation from a range of manufacturers.

Tutorials, demonstrations and hands-on practical sessions will be led by technical experts form Gatan, Leica, Diatome and Jeol. Keynote speakers will supplement the techniques taught.

Location/Airport: London-Luton airport is 5 mins away by frequent train and offers low cost flights from most European countries.
Transportation: Rothamsted Research has excellent rail and road links. Central London is 25 minutes by frequent train and the M1 motorway (exit J9) is within 5 miles.

Open access, for attendees to refine their skills on technique of choice.

Course tutors include Helmut Gngi (Diatome); Marilyn Carey, Bob Morrison, Huisheng Jiao (Gatan UK); Andy Yarwood (Jeol UK); Gareth Jackson (Leica); Jean Devonshire and Raffa Carzaniga (Rothamsted).
Please note, day 1 and day 5 are half days, around 4.5 hours long!
