The Society is an advocate of continued professional development. This is demonstrated through our full programme of courses which are regularly updated to ensure that they meet the needs of our students and keep up with the ever-changing technolgy. All courses have an excellent ratio of students/lecturers and provide significant time to gain hands-on experience.
Membership of the Society entitles you to a substantial discount on course fees.
Annual courses include:
Light Microscopy Summer School - covering the principles of light microscopy as well as providing valuable practical training.
Getting the most from your confocal- enabling students to fully appreciate and utilise the confocal microscope and help participants realise the potential of confocal imaging.
Electron Microscopy Course - consisting of three streams; general SEM and TEM for physical scientists, biological EM (SEM and TEM), and advance TEM.
Flow Cytometry Course- consisting of Basics of Flow Cytometry, Clinical Applications and Applications in Cell Biology. Students can attend between two and five days depending on their level of prior knowledge and experience.
Cell Imaging Techniques Course- covering topics such as immuno-labelling for light microscopy, confocal microscopy, and imaging live cells using GFP and techniques for immuno-labelling at the electron microscope level.
In addition the Society stages a further course in "even" years, e.g. 2010, 2012, etc..
Cryo Techniques for Electron Microscopy- teaching sample preparation and cryo microscopy techniques for both scanning and transmission electron microscopy.
