Babraham Institute Imaging Facility (Cambridge)
The Imaging Facility at Babraham offers supported access to a variety of fluorescence imaging technologies. Expert advice and training is available on a variety of different imaging platforms including confocal, multi-photon, high content and super resolution. External users (commercial and academic) can use our Facility, with access typically charged at an hourly rate.

The Imaging Facility at Babraham has a wide variety of mostly fluorescence-based imaging systems. These are high specification commercial systems that have been configured for use with a broad range of applications including both fixed and live cell imaging. Systems include point-scanning confocal (Zeiss 780, Nikon A1-R, Olympus FV1000), spinning disk confocal (Andor Revolution), multi-photon (Zeiss LSM-7 with Coherent Chameleon Vision+MPX), TIRF (Nikon), wide-field (Nikon and Olympus), High Content Imaging (GE InCell 6000), Super Resolution (Nikon N-SIM/N-STORM) and laser micro-dissection (Zeiss MicroBeam).
Keywords – Biological: Cell Biology | Neurobiology | Developmental Biology | Immunobiology | C.elegans | Drosophila | Cell based assays (screening)
The Imaging facility at Babraham has been setup to cater for the Institute's research, which focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying developmental and ageing processes. This research covers a variety of disciplines including signalling, epigenetics, immunology and understanding the organisation of the nucleus. The imaging facility therefore caters for a wide variety of applications and our equipment has been specified with flexibility in mind.
Keywords - Biological: Immunofluorescence | Cryostat sectioning | Vibrating microtome | Live Cell
The Imaging Facility at Babraham has a limited sample preparation capability, although we can offer advice on what would be appropriate for use with our imaging systems.
Keywords - Software: ImageJ | FIJI | Imaris | Huygens | Volocity | iQ | AutoQuant | InCell Analyser and Developer
The Imaging Facility at Babraham has an image analysis suite with high spec pcs available for image processing, quantification and presentation. Training on a variety of different software platforms is available.
External users are welcome with access charged at an hourly rate. Institute users will get priority access to equipment.
The equipment in the Imaging Facility at Babraham has been funded by the BBSRC. Operating the Facility and maintaining the equipment requires an annual budget which is funded through hourly charges to access the equipment. Please contact the Facility to find out what the current charges are.
