Visit our resource on female microscopists and help promote positive gender balance

We’re aiming to grow our global database of expert females to assist conference organisers

The RMS is encouraging people to help promote the work of female microscopists by adding to its online resource of women working across the field.

The Society is dedicated to supporting equality in microscopy, specifically for speakers invited to attend events internationally.

In collaboration with the RMS, Sian Culley at University College London has set up an online database to showcase and highlight female microscopists around the world and the specific areas in which they specialise.

The aim is to assist scientific and conference organisers in selecting excellent speakers for microscopy events and maintaining a positive gender balance. Microscopists can add themselves to the database, or nominate others.

RMS Chief Executive and Gender Equality Champion Allison Winton said: “As a society we are proud of our ongoing commitment to supporting gender equality in microscopy. It’s really important to highlight the work of prominent women working across the scientific fields - both to facilitate fair representation at conferences and other events, and to promote female participation in science in general.

"Our flagship event, mmc2019, is set to feature a particularly strong contingent of female microscopists and we’re really looking forward to showcasing their work.”
