Sad news of death of Clive Cowen, Hon FRMS
Key figure who served as RMS Honorary Treasurer for many years will be greatly missed
The RMS is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Clive Cowen Hon FRMS.
Clive was a hugely popular and influential figure within the Society, who was instrumental in many of its activities from the 1970s to the 2000s.
He served as Honorary Treasurer from 1972 until 1989, when he was also awarded an Honorary Fellowship. Clive was heavily involved in developing the Micro exhibitions (as they were called prior to the days of mmc) as well as the more commercial side of the Proceedings magazine (now infocus).
Among his many achievements in his role as Honorary Treasurer, Clive was instrumental in securing the purchase of the RMS’s current offices in Oxford in the mid-1970s.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him within the Society and wider scientific community.
We would like to offer our sincerest condolences to Clive’s family, friends and colleagues.
