Our development of a flow cytometric assay to count marine viruses late 90s helped obtain higher resolution (in time and space, and replication) results. Flow cytometry is now used routinely to enumerate and study the numerically dominant marine microbes. Here Corina will present some highlights of the important ecological role viruses have in the marine microbial ecosystem.
