Glorious Measurements Day

City University, London, 6 March 2013

On 6 March 2013, the RMS attended the Glorious Measurements Day at City University, London hosted by the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers.

The event invited Secondary School pupils to partake in a number of interactive workshops as well as attend talks from various scientific organisations. We took along one of our Microscope Activity Kits and ran through the Super Sleuth Activity in which students must work out from the clues, who has stolen the Jelly Babies from the Jelly Baby Factory!

Our plan was to ask the students how best they thought we could use this Activity with Primary School children and suggest any changes or amendments that could be made for use in Secondary schools, but we found that they were rather preoccupied with the activity itself and got as much enjoyment from it as a class of 10 year olds!

We ran the Activity with 11-14 year olds in the morning session and 14-18 year olds in the afternoon. We spoke to some very enthusiastic students and future scientists and did manage to gather some useful feedback for the future of the Kits.
