The Terms & Conditions of the Royal Microscopical Society, relating to copyright, events and publications.

1. Copyright

This site and its contents are the copyright of the Royal Microscopical Society (RMS). No part of this site, its contents or any images displayed may be replicated in any form without the written permission of RMS.

The “snowflake” logo of the RMS is protected by copyright.  It may be used by any RMS officer, committee or section for promoting RMS activities.  Those who receive funding or other support from the RMS, for example students receiving conference bursaries or other events receiving sponsorship, are expected to use the logo by way of acknowledgement.  Other use is by permission of the RMS Chief Executive.

2. Disclaimer

Every user explicitly acknowledges that all information and hyperlinks obtained/found on the RMS website are provided without warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied, including, but not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, and that the entire risk of acting on information obtained from this system, including the entire costs of all necessary remedies, is with those who choose to act on such information and not with the operators of this system or the suppliers of the information.

4. Membership

As a member of the RMS you will become eligible for various membership benefits such as:

  • a quarterly edition of our infocus magazine,
  • discount to RMS courses and events,
  • access to bursaries,
  • discounted purchases through Wiley,
  • membership to the European Microscopy Society,
  • e-newsletter.

The RMS needs to collect the following data to ensure the above benefits can be fulfilled:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Email
  • Telephone Number
  • Work Address
  • Date of Birth
  • Areas of Interest (optional)
  • Consent to Membership of the EMS (who will be provided with your details)

The above details will be kept until your membership of the RMS is cancelled. Once your membership has been cancelled we will remove all information unless we are required by UK Law or Regulations to retain the information. The RMS will contact you after cancellation of your membership to seek consent to keep you informed about the Society’s activities.

To qualify for the RMS membership registration rates for our training courses, you must have been a member of the RMS for at least 6 consecutive months prior to registration. 

To qualify for the RMS bursaries, you must have been a member of the RMS for at least 12 consecutive months prior to submitting the application.

A full refund will be given for out of stock items. All other items are non-refundable.

8. Cookie Policy

A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer's hard drive. 10. Controlling your Personal Information

You may choose to restrict the collection or use of your personal information in the following ways:

  • whenever you are asked to fill in a form on the website, ensure you do not click to indicate that you agree to your information being used by anybody for direct marketing purposes
  • if you have previously agreed to us using your personal information for direct marketing purposes, you may change your mind at any time by emailing us at info@rms.org.uk

We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless we have your permission or are required by law to do so. We may use your personal information to send you promotional information about third parties which we think you may find interesting if you tell us that you wish this to happen.

You may request details of personal information which we hold about you under the General Data Protection Regulation. A small fee will be payable. If you would like a copy of the information held on you please write to info@rms.org.uk

If you believe that any information we are holding on you is incorrect or incomplete, email us as soon as possible, at the above address. We will promptly correct any information found to be incorrect.
