Our event calendar is packed full of events spanning all branches of microscopy and cytometry in both the life and physical sciences.
As a Society we run a mixture of virtual and in-person training courses, networking meetings and larger international conferences and exhibitions, suitable for students and professionals to attend. To broaden our reach even further, we sponsor a number of events run by other Societies, providing them with essential funding to run meetings specific to their interest group.
The types of meeting include: Workshops (addressing practical work), Focus Meetings (on emerging techniques), Symposia (one-day scientific meetings), Technology Forums (one-day technology focused) and Conferences multi-day scientific meetings, including the Microscience Microscopy Congress (mmc) series. There is a clear set of guidelines as to the type of meetings that the Society holds and the responsibilities of the scientific organisers
We also host events on behalf of Societies who are unable to provide the administration and organisation time needed to run successful events. This allows our members to benefit from a much wider range of events covering an array of topics and allows for interdisciplinary networking.
We are continuously assessing our calendar of RMS led events to ensure we are meeting the needs of the community. If you are interested in becoming a Scientific Organiser for an RMS training course or conference, and would like further information, please contact Victoria Masters.
We are committed to ensuring that all of our events are as inclusive and accessible as possible. In September 2022, we launched our EDI&A working document, in which we look at all Society activities and how we can improve to better serve our community and ensure that we create welcoming and supportive environments. When creating our programme of events, we have many considerations to make including but not limited to: the academic calendar; availability of organisers and speakers; availability of venues and minimising overlapping with other community events both internally and externally. In addition to this, we now also review potential event dates against an inclusivity calendar to try and avoid as many significant cultural celebrations or days of religious observance as possible.
The Microscopy Lecture Series initiative has been developed as an international networking platform for expanding knowledge, sharing new developments, and exchanging best practices related to microscopy. Our first joint project is a virtual lecture series featuring microscopists who have defined the field of modern microscopy by their ground-breaking work. These virtual lectures mean we can engage a worldwide audience.
The Microscience Microcopy Congress (mmc) Series are the flagship events of the Royal Microscopical Society and they takes place in Manchester every two years. The mmc series encompasses a scientific conference of six parallel sessions of both invited and submitted talks alongside plenary lectures from world-leading names in microscopy and cytometry. The conference is accompanied by poster sessions hosted in the main exhibition hall which is also home to 100+ companies showcasing the very best of what is currently available in microscopy, cytometry and imaging.
With our busy calendar of events, there are plenty of opportunities to sponsor and exhibit at our events. From SPM to Flow Cytometry, we cater for a wide range of microscopy techniques covering both life and physical sciences. So, no matter which field you would like to attract, we'll have a suitable event for you.
