If you are an early career researcher, normally within 12 years of graduating, or are employed in a support role in microscopy or cytometry then these are for you.

If you have been a member of the Royal Microscopical Society for more than twelve months at the time of application and have been accepted to present a paper involving microscopy at a conference or workshop - either orally or as a poster - then you are eligible.

Bursary applications are considered by the Executive Honorary Secretary and the Honorary Treasurer. When there is a heavy demand preference will be given to those with one or more years of continuous membership. On occasions we also offer bursaries for specific events which will be publicised separately.

Please note:

  • The maximum amounts that can be awarded for an RMS Travel Bursary are £125 for a meeting up to 300km away from your place of work, £200 for a meeting 300-2000km away from your place of work and £300 for a meeting over 2000km away from your place of work
  • It is anticipated that where these sums are insufficient to cover all costs of attending a meeting, they will be used as ‘leverage’ for additional support from elsewhere.
  • After the conference the member will prepare a short report for publication in infocus.
