RMS saddened to learn of death of Dr Peter Evennett Hon FRMS
The RMS is deeply saddened to learn of the death of RMS Honorary Fellow, Dr Peter Evennett, at the age of 89.
As a scientist, teacher and champion of microscopy, Peter devoted his time and energy over several decades of service to the Society, having first joined as a member in 1966. He became one of the most highly respected and popular figures at the RMS, receiving the Society's highest accolade - Honorary Fellowship - in 1998.
As a tutor, Peter inspired generations of students on RMS courses - notably the annual Light Microscopy Summer Course - with his innovative and engaging teaching style. He was also instrumental in a wide range of RMS Outreach and Education initiatives, bringing the wonder of microscopy to people of all ages.
For almost 20 years Peter also served as the Editor of the Proceedings of the RMS, the Society's former publication for members, and the precursor to today's infocus Magazine. In 2021, he kindly gave an interview for the publication, reflecting on his long career and involvement with the RMS.
Peter remained active as an RMS volunteer into his 80s, in particular supporting the Microscope Activity Kit initiative for schools.
He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all at the RMS.
We would like to extend our sincerest condolences to Peter's family and friends at this time.
