Microscopy Characterisation of organic-inorganic Interfaces
Microscopy Characterisation of organic-inorganic Interfaces
Scientific Organisers: Dr. Nadezda V. Tarakina (QMUL), Dr. Andy Bushby (QMUL), Dr. Roland Fleck (KCL), Dr. Natalie Reznikov (ICL)
The meeting is dedicated to microscopy of materials comprised of both organic and inorganic constituents (in close proximity) and is aimed at bringing together experts from both the life science and materials science communities to address this challenging and increasingly important topic.
The second edition of the meeting broadens its horizons and is welcoming not only electron microscopists but scientists applying other microscopy techniques to share their knowledge and expertise in solving complex problems related to hybrid materials (bio-inspired composites, hybrid solar cells, mineralized tissues, colloidal nanoparticles, etc.).
Focus Lecture Series: Cryogenic Preparation and Imaging Strategies for Soft Matter in Materials Science
In addition we are delighted to introduce a special Focus Lecture series which will be held on the second day. This year, it will be organized together with The Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel) and be dedicated to "Cryogenic preparation and imaging strategies for soft matter in materials science".

Microscopy characterization of organic-inorganic interfaces
The scientific program consist of lectures from experts in both life science and material science microscopy from across the world and ‘Techno Bites’ from leading manufacturers, covering a broad range of microscopy techniques (optical microscopy, X-ray microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, cryo-EM, FIB-SEM and TEM tomography, EELS, correlative microscopy, etc.). A trade exhibition and a poster session will provide great opportunities for discussions. We believe that this format will foster creative thinking and inspire new ideas and collaborations.

Cryogenic preparation and imaging strategies for soft matter in materials science
The lecture series focuses on applied electron microscopy for the characterization of hydrated samples (hydrogels, colloids, hydrated polymers, polymer-peptide hybrids, scaffolds for cell culture evaluations) using cryo-preservation and characterization of materials in their pristine/life-like state. Several techniques that have been well established in life sciences research will be presented in the context of materials science.
