The New Enlightenment: The HLS Annual Research Lecture

Sir Paul Nurse, one of the world’s great scientists and communicators, explains why science matters hugely to us all.

We need to embrace a New Enlightenment to ensure that science is promoted and used effectively. Science enhances our culture and civilisation, improves our health and quality of life, helps solve the world’s biggest problems, and supports sustainability. It influences nearly everything we do, is absolutely essential to drive economies and is one of the UK’s greatest assets.

In this lecture Sir Paul will make the case for valuing science and ensuring that society engages with, and benefits from, scientific progress and discovery.

This is the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences’ annual research lecture.

You can register for this event through the dedicated page on the Oxford Brookes University website

Following the lecture will be a drinks reception from 19:00-20:00, supported by The Royal Microscopical Society.
