Sponsored Content: Customizable, inverted imaging platform from Prior

OpenStand-V is more than an inverted microscope—it’s a customizable, engineer-supported platform that bridges R&D and real-world applications.

Prior Scientific’s OpenStand is a fully customizable microscopy platform that enables users to develop new imaging methods, software, or trial novel automation techniques. The system is equally suited to one-off customizations or as a working platform for creating prototypes for new products.

What makes OpenStand truly unique is the development support that goes with it. Prior’s design engineers work with you every step of the way, supporting and guiding you to ensure the best configuration to meet your application. The following case studies give a flavor of how flexible the platform is.

Rapid Development: Prototype to production in 12 months

Hawk Biosystems had already proved the effectiveness of the technology for the application, and they wanted to develop a commercial product based on the research. Originally, they were working with various conventional microscopes with different software to carry out the process. This was too much for operators to learn in a clinical environment, and they needed a single, automated instrument.

Using the OpenStand-V and working closely with Prior’s development engineers, they were able to develop a working prototype of a fully automated instrument, and in just 12 months, they had produced a fully commercial, own-label product. They have since transitioned into full production.

Built for Advanced Techniques: Advanced Imaging for Live Cell Applications

Another client needed to combine widefield fluorescence and TIRF imaging—two demanding modalities that usually require separate setups. OpenStand-V allowed them to integrate both seamlessly into a single high-resolution system, customized to their specifications and compatible with their existing IP.

Iterative Design Process for Specialized Microscopy

In agriculture, a client set out to automate soil sample testing. Early prototypes included multiple imaging modalities, but tests proved that a much simpler setup would provide the level of performance required. Prior’s engineers were easily able to simplify the system and reduce costs for the client thanks to the OpenStand’s modular design.

Converting a Life Science Tool for Semiconductor Applications

Even beyond life sciences, OpenStand-V has proven its versatility. A semiconductor company reconfigured it into a tool for inspecting transparent semiconductor wafers—something traditional upright systems couldn’t handle. Custom components, modified optics, and infrared capabilities were all developed through Prior’s modular, collaborative approach.

OpenStand-V is more than a microscope—it’s a customizable, engineer-supported platform that bridges R&D and real-world applications.
