All these images were produced using a Leica DM 2700 Materials Microscope. The idea was to produce images using the different techniques this instrument has – polarisation with differential interference contrast (DIC), polarisation with darkfield, darkfield with DIC, and a combination of all three. To make this possible I combined both transmitted and reflected light, and utilised an extra darkfield condenser for the transmitted light source.
The final results were edited in Photoshop CS3 to create the artistic effects I had visualised.
