Platelets have multiple roles in both health and disease and are easily accessible in peripheral blood, two factors that have lead to extensive characterisation by flow
cytometry. Assays that have complemented or replaced more conventional techniques are used to study aspects of platelet biology such as functional responses, antigen
quantitation and antibody detection.
