Social media – the concept of sharing content in an online network – has become an integral part of society. Yet many scientists still think of it as a frivolous and slightly
dubious space in which people exchange the latest cat videos and chat about food. Used in a professional context, social media can be a powerful tool to help scientists keep up to date with current developments, extend their professional network, raise their profile and engage different audiences.
