Electrical Tides (Zoomed) - Magnified approximately 20×, this image reveals the microscopic barbules of a peacock feather. Their repeating arrangement evokes the rhythmic crests of ocean waves illuminated beneath a deep blue sky, despite depicting a structure only fractions of a millimeter across. The brilliant blue is generated not by pigment but by structural coloration: precisely organized nanostructures interact with light through interference, producing vivid iridescence. By removing all familiar visual cues, the image transforms a biological surface into an abstract seascape shaped entirely by the physics of light. Image by Emre Can, Marmara University
