Transition-metal interdiffusion and solid electrolyte poisoning in all-solid-state batteries revealed by cryo-TEM

Solid-state batteries are considered as a future energy storage technology with potentially superior energy/power density and improved safety over conventional lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Their commercial implementation however is hampered by side reactions and electro-chemo-mechanical degradation occurring during cycling operation (primarily at the cathode side). Many efforts have been made to reveal the underlying mechanisms to alleviate these intrinsic problems.

In the current study, the Thermo Scientific™ Inert Gas Sample Transfer (IGST) Workflow solution was used to enable a DualBeam to TEM workflow by protecting bulk sample and prepared lamella under argon atmosphere with a CleanConnect transfer module.

During this webinar, you can expect:

  • new learnings from full solid state battery with Sulphur solid electrolyte
  • new ways to prepare air and moisture sensitive battery sample for electron microscopy
  • link microscopy findings with electrochemical data microscopy findings with electrochemical data to unlock microstructural evolution in solid state battery
