Course Details

The Course will be of immense value to any life scientist or cell biologist, from research or technical background, from hospitals, research institutes, industry or academia and at any stage in their career, who wants to learn or update their knowledge of current cell imaging techniques, either for routine purposes or for research.

No previous knowledge is assumed, and it will of value to complete novices and those with some previous experience. It covers a wide range of applications in pathology, cell biology and the plant sciences.

The course is updated every year to take into account new developments in cell imaging approaches and closely related technologies. It is structured towards a technical understanding of techniques, as once they are mastered they can be applied to almost any cell / tissue system or research project.

About the course
The course is conducted in English and all course materials are prepared in English.
The course will have a maximum of 20 delegates.

Venue and Travel
The course will be taking place at the Gipsy Lane Campus of Oxford Brookes University, Oxford. For more information on Oxford Brookes University, please visit www.brookes.ac.uk.

If you are flying to the UK, we recommend that you travel to any London Airport. Oxford has excellent bus links with both London Heathrow and London Gatwick. Visit the Airline website for further information on timings and costs.
If travelling by train to Oxford, you can either get a taxi directly to Clive Booth PGC (Post Graduate centre) which should cost no more than £10, or you can get a bus. Please see the Oxford Bus Company Website for more information.
If you are driving, please let the RMS know in advance so that we can arrange for a space for you. Parking in Oxford is severely limited and please be aware that Oxford is not known for being car friendly.

Registration, Accommodation and Meals
Registration will be taking place on Sunday 22nd July from 17.00 – 18.00 at the Clive Booth Post Graduate Centre Reception.
At registration you will receive the following:
a name badge, a course pack including programme, notes and delegate list, and a pack of RMS information.
You will be requested to wear your badge at all times during the course.

Immediately after registration we will make our way into Oxford to a local restaurant for a welcome dinner. Depending on the weather you may need to bring a jumper or a jacket.

Accommodation
If you have selected accommodation, you have 5 nights’ at Clive Booth Post Graduate Centre, beginning on Sunday 22nd and checking out on Friday 27th (unless otherwise arranged with the office).
The rooms are very basic, en-suite and student style. Bed linen and towels are provided. The rooms do not have televisions.

Meals

Breakfast from Monday to Friday is included and will be served in the PGC Lounge, which is located next to the small lake in the centre of the PGC.
Buffet lunches will be provided in the Department each day, as will tea and coffee. There is also a small campus shop if you wish to buy canned drinks or snacks during the day. The PGC is 10 minutes walk from local shops.

Evening meals
Sunday evening: Dinner at Pizza Express in Oxford city centre.
Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday evening: Dinner in PGC Lounge.
Thursday evening: Dinner at Branca, a restaurant in Oxford.

Additional Information

  • Delegates travelling from mainland Europe or the Rest of the World will need electricty travel adaptors for the UK.
  • Internet access passwords can be obtained at registration and are free. You can use them in the PGC lounge, however you will not be able to access wifi in your bedrooms.
  • Dress code for the course is smart casual, you will be indoor for the duration of the course and the building is air conditioned. There are evening social activities planned and delegates are reminded to bring provision in case of inclement weather.
  • Every care will be taken to cater for any special dietary requirements. Delegates must make the RMS aware of these requirements prior to attending, please contact sarah@rms.org.uk.
  • Oxford Brookes University has a small shop and ATM on site.

After the course
We will send out an email questionnaire after the course. We would be most grateful if you could fill this in within a week of returning so that we can use your comments to improve the running of the course for the following year.
