RMS Microscope Activity Kits
The Microscope Activity Kit Scheme is completely free for all UK Primary Schools.
A Kit can be borrowed for an entire term and contains enough microscopes and resources for a whole class of children!
With 6 curriculum-mapped activities spanning both Key Stage 1 and 2, there are plenty of ways to bring microscopy to your classroom. You can even use the microscopes in your own science lessons, maybe you could take them on a minibeast hunt, or find out what's living in your pond!
We organise the delivery and collection of the Kits, all we ask is that you let us know how you got on!
In order to apply for a Microscope Activity Kit please fill in the online request form below. You do need to be employed by the school you are requesting a Kit for. However, if you are not employed by the school but require the Kit, please ask the school to apply.
Microscope Activity Kits and Covid-19
The Microscope Activity Kits are intended to be used in small groups and a great deal of contact is required with equipment, in particular the eye pieces of the microscopes, we are not comfortable with sending them out to schools in the current circumstances.
We are working on a set of guidelines for safe use of the kits and how we can instruct the users to safely clean them, both to protect the users and also protect the equipment from accidental damage caused by the cleaning. This will take time and the safety of those using the kits, delivering them and maintaining them, is our main priority.
If you have booked a kit, we will be directly in contact with you, once we are able to confirm when the kits are available again.
Although every effort will be made to rearrange a booking to a term of the schools choosing we may not be able to fulfil demand as our kits are already almost fully booked for the next academic year. We hope to be able to make additional kits available and are looking into this.
Please be assured that we do not wish any schools to miss out on the opportunity and will do our upmost to provide a solution.
If you have any questions, please email Jessica Cole and we will respond as soon as possible. We hope to be able to update you further in the coming months.
