Imaging Platforms
Keywords - Light Microscopy: Atomic Force Microscopy | Widefield Microscopy | Multi-photon Microscopy | Raman Imaging
We currently have three imaging platforms available:
1. Label-free multi-photon microscope
A custom built multiphoton microscope with a picosecond laser system for fast coherent Raman imaging over the 1600-3600 cm-1 range.
Suitable for a combination of imaging modes:
- Coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS)
- Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS)
- Second harmonic generation (SHG)
- Two Photon Excitation Fluorescence (TPEF)
2. InVia confocal Raman microscope (Renishaw)
Raman spectroscopy using a 785nm laser for excitation. Raman mapping capability by scanning the sample. Upright brightfield microscope for sample visualisation.
3. AFM Bioscope II (Veeco/ Bruker)
Capable of measurements in air and liquid using contact, tapping and force modulation modes. Suitable for live cell imaging and topography measurements at nanometer resolution. Can be used to measure the mechanical characteristics of the sample (e.g. Young's modulus)
Applications
Keywords – Biological: Cell Biology | Developmental Biology | Plant Biology | Neurobiology | Immunobiology | Drosophila | Bio-materials
Keywords - Physical Sciences: Bioengineering & Biomaterials | Geology/Mineralyogy | Optical & Photonic Materials and Devices | Catalysts | Nanomaterials | Composites | Magnetics | Magnetic Materials & Spintronics
Our facilities have been used to study a wide range of samples such as live stem cells, organoids, Biopsy tissues, Drosophila, engineered tissue scaffolds and fossils.
Sample Preparation
Keywords - Biological: Immunofluorescence | H&E Staining | Live Cell
As the techniques employed are label-free minimal sample preparation steps are required. We can provide tissue culture facilities for live cell imaging projects. Additional sample preparation facilities can be arranged on request.
Data Analysis
Keywords - Software: ImageJ | Fiji | Matlab
The facility manager can provide guidance on data analysis using open source software packages.
Shared Access
Bookings can be made by emailing the facility manager. Microscopes are charged for use per half day.
