Bristol University Wolfson Bioimaging Facility

The Wolfson Bioimaging Facility provides microscopy support for researchers across Bristol University and beyond. A broad range of fluorescence imaging systems are positioned alongside high specification electron microscopes. Expert support is provided for preparation, imaging and analysis. The fully integrated nature of the facility allows us to combine multiple imaging modalities, including correlative microscopy.

A data analysis suite provides access to commercial and open-source image processing and analysis tools. A dedicated image analyst - stephen.cross@bristol.ac.uk - provides advice, training and development of bespoke analysis tools.

Shared Acces

The Facility welcomes enquiries from potential external users. We are available for such use where capacity and compliance with the University of Bristol’s research governance and integrity policy allows. We operate on a Full Economic Costing recovery basis.

Funding

The Facility was formed in 2008 by the merger of the MRC Cell Imaging Facility (established 1996) with EM facilities in the Department of Physiology and the acquisition of new laboratory space and equipment (LM and EM systems) funded by the Wolfson Foundation and University of Bristol. The Facility has since grown to house 28 imaging systems funded by MRC, BBSRC, Wellcome Trust, EPSRC and University sources and expanded into additional rooms funded by the Wolfson Foundation.
