IGC Advanced Imaging Resource

The IGC AIR is an umbrella group of imaging facilities in the IGC serving researchers within the University of Edinburgh. The facility is well equipped with many imaging modalities and a collection of highly skilled support staff providing expert training, advice for the microscopes and custom scripts/plugins for image analysis.

We support a wide range of platforms. As well as standard confocal and widefield we host SIM and STORM super-resolution platforms. We also support Slide scanning, FCS, FRET, FRAP-PA, Tau FLIM and MicroCT. We have a home build multiphoton-SRS Raman sytems.

Sample Preparation

Keywords - Biological: Immunofluorescence, H&E staining

Mostly our facility users prepare their own samples, however we are happy to provide advice as required.

Data Analysis

Keywords - Software: ImageJ | FIJI | Imaris | Amira | Matlab | Huygens | Volocity | Metamorph | OMERO
Keywords - Hardware: We provide in person and remote access to our BioImage analysis resources

The AIR has a Image Informatician and staff members who can provide advice and a bespoke scripting service as well as support with image analysis.

Shared Access

Our facility is open to all. Please see here for more information: https://www.ed.ac.uk/institute-genetics-cancer/facilities/advanced-imaging-resource

We also house the University of Edinburgh ESRIC facilities: http://www.rms.org.uk/outreach/index/facilities-database-2/facdatESRIC

Funding Overview

The AIR receives funding from a variety of sources. The MRC-HGU imaging facilities are mostly funded through the MRC. ESRIC is funded from a MRC next generation optical microscopy award. Wellcome, CRUK, ERC, BBSRC also provide substantial funding for imaging as do UK charities
