Cardiff School of Biosciences Bioimaging Hub
The Bioimaging Hub at Cardiff School of Biosciences provides a broad range of optical imaging techniques from the whole organism to the super-resolution level. Details of the facility, including available equipment, booking and charges are all available through our website.
Keywords - Light Microscopy: Scanning and spinning disc confocal microscopy | Lightsheet microscopy | Superresolution microscopy | Widefield microscopy | Live cell imaging | FCS/FCCS | Raman imaging | FLIM
Keywords - Medical Imaging: in vivo Fluorescence Imaging
The Bioimaging Hub at Cardiff University has a range of state of the art imaging platforms, which include a multi-spectral in vivo imaging system; a Zeiss Lightsheet Z.1, a Zeiss LSM 880 Airyscan super-resolution confocal (upright) microscope; two Leica scanning confocal systems (upright and inverted); a spinning disc confocal; a developmental CARS system; conventional widefield upright imaging systems (brightfield, darkfield, phase contrast, Nomarski DIC, polarising and epifluorescence optics); a slide scanning system; stereomicroscopy and macro-imaging.
Keywords - Biological: Cell Biology | Neurobiology | Developmental Biology | Plant Biology | Zebrafish | Drosophila | Microbiology | Bio-materials |Histology/pathology
We have wide experience in most aspects of light and electron microscopy. The manager has >20 years experience of confocal imaging and widefield microscopy. The facility sees a broad range of research applications including general histology/pathology and immunohistochemisty; live cell biology; developmental biology (model organisms including Zebrafish & Drosophila); microbiology (planktonic micro-organisms and biofilms) and biomaterials (e.g. tissue engineered constructs etc).
This hub offers a histological sample processing and slide preparation service.
Keywords - Software: Bitplane Imaris | arivis Vision4D | Fiji (ImageJ)
We use the Zeiss Zen and Leica confocal software, Bitplane Imaris, arivis Vision4D and Fiji (ImageJ) in addition to other open source software.
The hub works in partnership with researchers across Cardiff University and GW4 member institutions. We also provide innovative imaging solutions across biological, chemical and material science to the industrial sector.
Full technical support, training and advice on the use of all of our imaging equipment is available to users on a chargeable basis.
